Okay! First post for the blog. Let's start by setting the stage as to the current situation for the project.
I started officially working on DOKI✜POW in May 2023. I slowly chipped away at the project when I could find the time, and eventually, gave a final push to release a private proof-of-concept demo in May of this year. The demo was released to a closed testing group, from whom I got a lot of constructive feedback!
With a successful concept and a first demo- received very positively -I have the confidence I needed to slowly advance the project towards its completion. I'll be trying to update this blog and broadcasting it on social media keep some breadcrumbs and help keep track of how things advance. Nothing like looking back at a post from 4 months ago to swell with pride at how far you've come in debugging A Small Coding Issue!
Currently, the game has the first zone (the tutorial) mapped out and coded in a rudimentary fashion. It'll of course be revisited later, but for now I'll move on to the next area to create its skeleton.
Vague state of the game:
- Mostly completed code
- Zones mapped out: 1/6
- Basic placeholder graphics for the first zone
- Complete illustrations for the first zone
- Mostly custom sound effects
- No original BGM
- Loooootsa polishing needed!
